Tea Set Workshop with Brenden Deasy Intermediate Wheel Throwing & Handbuilding Workshop We’re excited to welcome former Sarasota Clay Company instructor Brenden Deasy back to the studio for a special two-part workshop exploring the art and craft of the handmade tea set. In this intensive making workshop, participants will combine wheel-thrown and handbuilt techniques to create a cohesive tea set consisting of a teapot, cups, and serving tray. Rather than approaching each piece individually, Brenden will guide students through considering the set as a whole—exploring form, proportion, function, surface, and the visual relationships that bring multiple pieces together into a unified collection. The first session is a full studio day dedicated to making and construction. Participants will work through the various components of their tea sets, incorporating both wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques while developing their own interpretation of the form. After the work has been bisque fired, the group will return for a dedicated glazing session to complete their sets and consider how glaze and surface treatment can further connect the individual pieces. Workshop Schedule: Making Workshop Thursday, October 29th 10:00am–4:00pm Glazing Session Thursday, November 12th 1:00–3:00pm This is an intermediate-level workshop designed for potters who already have experience with both wheel throwing and handbuilding. Participants should be comfortable working independently with clay and have a working knowledge of fundamental construction and wheel-throwing techniques. Intermediate Wheel Throwing & Handbuilding Skill Level Required. Come ready to spend the day making, experimenting, and thinking beyond the individual pot as you create a tea set designed to work—and live—together. All instruction, clay, studio glazes, and firings are included. Cancellation Policy
Please arrive 10–15 minutes early. Classes begin promptly at the scheduled start time, and late arrivals may miss important demonstrations. CANCELLATIONS Students must cancel at least 48 hours before their scheduled appointment or class to avoid a cancellation fee of 100% for the service cost. If you have an emergency and cannot make it to class, please give us a call at (941) 359-2773. In the rare event the studio has to close unexpectedly, make-up dates will be provided. There is a minimum of 4 people for a Date Night Class to run. In the event a Date Night Class does not reach the minimum 24 hours prior to the class, clients will be fully refunded or contacted to reschedule for another date. FEES Prices listed include a 3% convenience fee on the order total and applicable sales tax on clay and supplies. *Prices, rates and fees are subject to change COLLECTING YOUR WORK Your finished pieces will be ready to pick up 2 weeks from your appointment date. Please call ahead of time to make sure your work is ready. Pieces left for more than 30 days will become property of Sarasota Clay Company. LIABILITY Sarasota Clay Company and its employees are not liable or responsible for any accidental injury to students or any loss or damage to personal possessions. PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEO Sarasota Clay Company reserves the right to take photographs and video recordings during classes, which may include students and their work. These images and videos may be used for promotional purposes in any media, in perpetuity, without compensation to students. FINISHED WORK Every effort is made to support students in producing well-made pieces.
